CATSAT
is a worldwide and round the clock, easy-to-use, onboard satellite
service to help fishing.
Ocean-observing satellites and marine meteorology can help fishermen
to:
- Locate favorable fishing grounds
- Reduce operating costs
- Improve safety during fishing operations
- Meet their quotas more efficiently
CATSAT is geared towards providing ocean data in near-real time
for fisheries that support temperature-sensitive species such as:
- Purse Seiners
- Long Liners
- Trawlers
CATSAT offers oceanographic data acquired by satellites and marine
meteorology data, including:
Altimetry/Sea Level Anomaly Maps (SLA):
This new type of observation map, designed for the fishing industry,
indicates the location of ocean eddies, fronts and associated currents,
which are generally thought to be good fishing grounds.
Sea Surface Temperature:
This information is widely used by fishermen to locate thermal fronts
and areas of strong gradients. It is very useful for pelagic fisheries.
Ocean Color:
Ocean color illustrates phytoplankton concentration of upper ocean.
Fish often gather to feed in areas rich in phytoplankton.
Weather Forecasts:
Each day atmospheric pressure, wind, and wave height are forecast
for the next seven days. These data allow fishermen to increase
safety and better plan operations at sea.
Subsurface Temperature:
These maps, which are designed from oceanographic models, provide
sub-surface information, down to 300 meters deep. It is very useful
for long liner to moor their siding lines at the right depth.
WeeLee
International has teamed up with the French company CLS (Collecte
Localisation Satellites) to be the exclusive distibutor in Taiwan
for CATSAT services.
Please note that WeeLee International and CLS are wholely independent
companies in respect to each other.
